Despre – Aeroport Craiova

Pozitionat in partea de Sud a Romaniei, in capitala Olteniei, Aeroportul International Craiova este considerat drept principala poartă de intrare a investitorilor din Oltenia, dezvoltandu-se permanent, principalele obiective vizate fiind atât mobilitatea și accesibilitatea locuitorilor, cât și a marilor corporații din zona. Situat la o distanță de 7 km de centrul orașului Craiova, de-a lungul traseului Craiova – București, aeroportul deservește întreaga zonă a Olteniei, respectiv cele cele 5 județe : Dolj, Gorj, Mehedinți, Olt și Vâlcea și nu numai, infrastructura rutieră și feroviară în plină dezvoltare făcând posibilă deplasarea și din/către zonele limitrofe: Bulgaria, Serbia, Timișoara, Argeș etc.

Aeroportul International Craiova dispune de infrastructura moderna, principalele preocupari fiind legate de cresterea continua a calitatii serviciilor prestate, a conditiilor pentru sosirea, plecarea si manevrarea la sol a aeronavelor in trafic national si/sau international, asigurarea serviciilor aeroportuare pentru tranzitul de persoane, marfuri si posta, precum si servicii de interes public national, protejand in acelasi timp resursele naturale ale mediului.

“În prezent, Aeroportul Internațional Craiova se află în plină expansiune, proiectele de dezvoltare și modernizare finalizate sau în curs de implementare pregătind poarta de intrare aeriană în capitală Olteniei pentru o nouă etapă: cea în care traficul de pasageri va ajunge la aproximativ 2 milioane de persoane anual. Principalul proiect cuprinde realizarea unui nou terminal de pasageri cu o suprafață construită de 12.791mp, o nouă parcare care să deservească întregul aeroport, drumuri rutiere de acces, amenajarea suprafeței nivelate a benzii pistei, amenajarea ariei de siguranță, drumuri tehnologice, o platformă de degivrare a aeronavelor, o platformă de îmbarcare-debarcare, căi de rulare, echipamente și sisteme de control de securitate, cât și unele dotări, proiect ce va fi finalizat în anul 2024.” – Sorin Manda

In 1938, on January 27, Carol II decreed the establishment of "an airport in Craiova, which will also serve as a military airfield, in case of war...". Starting from that year, the Craiova Airport "affected to the public air transport of passengers and cargo" operated on the current site. At that time, take-off and landing were done on a dirt runway with dimensions of 1000 x 200 m. Between 1938 and 1956, passenger services were almost non-existent, lacking the comfort that passengers enjoy today. Between 1950 and 1952, a concrete runway with dimensions of 2000 x 60 m was built and the first facilities were made with means of approach and landing consisting of 2 NDBs. On May 6, 1957, the first air line was opened, Craiova - Bucharest, with Russian LI-2 airplanes. In 1959, the building where the airport's control tower and dispatcher are today was built, and AN-2 aircraft were used until 1962, when modern IL-14 aircraft were used for those years. This type of aircraft served the Craiova - Bucharest route until 1972.

Also between 1959 and 1972, the runway was expanded to 2500 x 60 m and a 380 x 14 m taxiway and a 75 x 110 m platform for embarkation and disembarkation, both made of concrete, were built. Between 1972 and 1989, the Craiova - Bucharest route was served by AN-24 and IL-18 aircraft, the technical body, the passenger waiting room, the emission center and the protocol lounge of the airport were built. The revolution of 1989 and the transition to a market economy in Romania led to a decrease in the number of TAROM company flights, which meant the cessation of regular domestic flights starting in 1994. From 1995, Craiova Airport was opened to domestic and international traffic, serving only charter flights. Starting from March 29, 2007, Carpatair flights on the Craiova-Timisoara connection were officially launched, to 15 destinations in Italy, Greece and Germany. The entire developing region of SW Romania will have at its disposal the fastest and most comfortable transport route to other destinations in Europe
