Italy is a European country, being located in the south of the continent. The Italic Peninsula is well known for its art and culture, but also for its numerous tourist attractions. Another reason why Italy is one of the most sought-after destinations is the specific food (pasta, pizza, etc.). The Apennine Mountains in central Italy run eastward, joining the Alps, closing Italy to the north. There is a lagoon, crossed by the river Pad. Winter is very beautiful here, which is why tourists visit the mountain regions. These are very popular for practicing winter sports.
Tourist Attractions: Pompeii & Herculaneum
The impressive remains of the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79, offer a complete and vivid picture of society and everyday life at the beginning of our era. The archaeological excavations carried out here have revealed a Roman-style city, beautifully preserved with a lot of houses, bars, public baths, brothels, restaurants and places of entertainment. A special characteristic of Pompeii is the wealth of graffiti scrawled on its walls, including some more obscure ones.
With old documentary attestation (mentioned in Roman documents from the year 107), Civitavecchia is located on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Lazio region, Italy. The main node of the maritime routes connecting Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Barcelona, Tunisia, Toulon and Malta, Civitavecchia is used as a port for cruise ships and is considered the second port of Europe in terms of traffic. The spectacularity of the old Etruscan settlement derives from its positioning between the Mignone and Marangone rivers as well as from the sinuousness of the shores dotted with small bays. The main attractions of the city are the Michelangelo Fort, the Rocca Castle, the Cathedral of San Francesco d' Assisi and the Roman baths of Ficoncella (Terme Taurine).
Lucca is a historic city located in Tuscany, on the west coast of Italy, in the immediate vicinity of Pisa and is known as the city of a hundred churches, due to the large number of historical religious edifices present. It is also known throughout Italy for its fantastic medieval walls that still surround most of the old town.
